You will want to feature a large or elaborate cake
on its own. A round, skirted table is popular and
makes great for pictures. The cake should be cut just
before dessert, and while the coffee is being offered for
a luncheon or dinner reception. For an afternoon tea,
or cocktail reception, the cake is usually served after
the recieveing line and once guests have their drinks.
The band leader or master of ceremonies
announces the event. The groom places his right hand
over yours and together you cut the first sllice. You
then offer one another a bite, which signifies a
willingness and a pledge to share life together. The
bride may then offer a piece of cake to her new in-laws
and the groom should do the same, as a thoughtful
gesture. The rest of the cake is then cut by a friend or
waitress and served to the guests.
